Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS roars into the Middle East

It’s been more than two months since Huawei unveiled the new Mate 20 Series to the world. Not one, not two, not three, but four different versions including one made in partnership with Porsche Design and it’s special in its own right. For those who love beauty on the outside but like to have a powerful high-performance beast under the hood, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS is here in the Middle East.

Huawei and Porsche Design have collaborated before, and that partnership continues with the new Mate 20 Series. This one is quite a rarity as it’s not only commanding a higher premium but also the entire look and feel of its chassis is akin to a Porsche Boxster or 911 Turbo.

Just like the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, it’s got similar (maybe even slightly better) features that make it a standout on its own:

  • Leica triple camera system for the rear camera
  • 8GB of RAM
  • 512 GB of storage (expandable with a 256 GB NM card – sold separately)
  • Android Pie 9.0 with new EMUI
  • Kirin 980 SoC
  • AMOLED display
  • In-screen fingerprint reader
  • Face Unlock
  • Supports Reverse Charging just like the Mate 20 Pro
  • Incorporates 40 W HUAWEI SuperCharge1 and 15 W Fast Wireless Quick Charge

Since it’s part of the new Mate 20 Series, let’s dive in to see what makes this model unique from its other siblings.

Specialties of the Mate 20 RS

Though it comes in black and Red, the latter is quite rare that only select countries are getting this colour variant. In the Middle East alone, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are the only countries where people can buy the red model (I heard that very few countries worldwide will get this colour in the market). This isn’t just plain leather on the back – it’s handcrafted premium leather with artisan textures that you’d find inside a Porsche vehicle. Not only does this give it a sturdy grip when you hold it, but it also matches well with the car’s interior.

One look at the back and you’ll instantly know that this Mate 20 Series model is a different beast. While the other Mate 20 Series models have a slight bump for the matrix arrangement of the Leica triple camera system, this model has it completely flush that it doesn’t even protrude from the back. Sleek and aerodynamic like a Porsche vehicle, and you would think it’s completely invisible.

Every SKU sold of this model (black or red) comes with the standard items as part of the Mate 20 Series but with exclusive additions comprised of special accessories inside the box: a UK compatible charger, an EU compatible charger, a leather case, VIP card, and leather rear cover care card.

The phone itself is going to cost QAR/AED 7,099 and it’s officially available from 20 December 2018 at your local Porsche Design store in Qatar and UAE, retail and online store of the mobile carrier store that has partnered with Huawei for the pre-orders (Ooredoo Qatar and Etisalat), and even the Huawei store in Dubai.

P.S: With about 10 days remaining for 2018, Huawei may soon be hitting a global milestone as posted on their Twitter account.
