It’s only been a few weeks since the inaugural Web Summit Qatar took place, but the event wasn’t without its slate of announcements. While the event saw TikTok having a significant presence, it also heralded of something bigger for Qatar and even the wider region.
In partnership with the Government of Qatar, an MoU was signed that looks to see the opening of a Creative Studio in the country. All of this looks to serve the roadmap for the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Fueling the Creator Economy
The usual trend is that many such global tech brands would consider opening such a caliber of a facility in the UAE (Dubai to be specific), given their business-friendly regulations. With so much talk worldwide about the creator economy, it looks like the Middle East wants to have the first mover advantage and Qatar definitely wants the largest possible piece of it from the MENA region.
Such an announcement implies that there’s a long time table for setting up the operations and opening it. However, my chat with their regional GM during the Web Summit Qatar shed more light on the timetable. They really want to move fast, break a few things and fix them while scaling up.

While the details are still scant on the scope of the TikTok Creative Studio in Qatar, I’ll probably get more details closer to its opening. IMHO, it looks like this won’t just cover Qatar as it’ll definitely benefit the wider MENA region especially the GCC.
My instinct tells me that they shouldn’t just focus on creatives (i.e. videos) that are TikTok-friendly for brands. I can imagine support for their platform of effects (which has recently opened up for custom ones by users/brands) and even their CapCut video editing app for their templates (love using it on my smartphone and laptop).
I’ll keep you posted on more details when the Creative Studio opens.
