When Sony launched the PS VR for the PlayStation 4, it was quite a feat to bring VR gaming to the masses followed by many great games showcasing its prowess. The device itself sold 5M+ units over its lifetime (Source: Sony) and even got support on the PS5 by offering a free adapter for existing owners (source: PlayStation).
Fast forward to the PS5 era, Sony unveiled the PS VR2 in early 2022 and then released it in February 2023. Although it’s been out for at least a year, the number of games have grown but nothing stood out as a benchmark for showcasing it.
Back in February 2024, they announced a test to bring it to the PC in 2024 (Source: IGN ME) with no set date. That’s about to change – Sony has finally announced an official PlayStation VR2 PC Adapter will be releasing in August 2024 worldwide.
PS VR2 meets SteamVR on PC
While the news itself greatly benefits PS VR2 support expanding beyond just the PlayStation 5 console, it definitely adds more value for PS5 users. SteamVR will definitely benefit as people can play the popular Half-Life: Alyx if they couldn’t justify getting a VR headset.
Before you even dive in, keep the following in mind:
- A commercially available DisplayPort cable (sold separately) that is compatible with DisplayPort 1.4,
- A Steam account to play SteamVR games
- A PC that meets the following minimum requirements
| OS | Windows 10 64-bt/ Windows 11 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-7600 / Amed Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later architecture) |
| RAM/Memory | 8GB or more |
| Graphics card | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later (Turing or later architecture) NVIDIA RTX series AMD Radeon RX 5500XT or later AMD Radeon RX 6500XT or later |
| Display connection | DisplayPort 1.4 (standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output port) |
| USB | Direct connection only (not using a USB hub) |
| Wireless connectivity | Bluetooth 4.0 or later |
Optimal performance on the graphics card requirement requires an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or higher, or AMD Radeon 6600XT or higher model. Setup will require installing the PlayStation VR2 App and Steam VR app from the Steam store.
The line between PC and PS5
There is a catch – not all features will be available for PC. This is a PlayStation product; its best features are tied to using it as part of the PlayStation ecosystem (i.e. with your PS5 console).
| PS VR2 features exclusive to PS5 | PS VR2 features on PC |
|---|---|
| HDR | 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye) |
| Headset feedback | 110-degree field of view |
| Eye tracking | Finger touch detection |
| Adaptive triggers | See-through view |
| Haptic feedback | Foveated rendering (without eye tracking) |
| 3D audio (using SteamVR’s audio technology) |
While some features would have been great to use, it still gives both new/existing PS VR2 users the oppotunity to extend its use beyond the console.
If you were fortunate buy a PS VR2 during the Days of Play 2024 sale, then just pick up the PC adapter and you’re set to enjoy using it on both PC and PS5.

As for the price, it’s estimated to be US$ 59.99 – which is almost equivalent to paying for a PS5 game here in the Middle East region. Maybe closer to its release date, the PS VR2 may see a temporary price drop.
