If the recent availability of Google Street View in Oman is the first step to its availability, then Qatar is about to get an upgrade with the new partnership between Google and Qatarโs Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA).
While the first phase of Googleโs 360 Street View included some of the countryโs football stadiums set to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, it became the fifth country in the region to see the rollout.
The partnership leverages advanced technology (i.e. 360-degree panoramic views) that looks to enhance navigation and boost tourism, funneled to support Qatarโs digital transformation goals as part of their national vision.
People in Qatar can benefit from improved navigation on Google Maps, and visitors can virtually explore Qatarโs landmarks before planning their trips: Qatarโs museums, Souq Waqif, The Corniche, Al Zubarah Fort, and even experience the thrill of cruising the sand dunes in the Inland Sea. For businesses, especially those focused in tourism and retail, the opportunity provides global visibility and engagement opportunities to promote Qatar when visitors arrive.
As this is being done by using the Google Street View Car or even back-mounted camera system, users can still also contribute to it using compatible consumer 360 cameras that are widely available.
