We’ve all heard of hackathons that give people the opportunity to come together and prototype something within a short span of time. Whether it’s organized by the tech companies or universities, they have been rising in popularity.
Amazon is keen to leverage it by tapping into the pool of university students. That’s why they have just announced Amazon Teckathon for students in Jordan. It’s the first event of its kind organized by the Amazon team in Jordan.
Team up and develop
The hackathon will be held virtually from 14 – 16 September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This should really give students a chance to use many of Amazon’s repertoire of products as part of the hackathon.
The following day will be used by the teams to present their projects in the form of a short presentation that can be a short video that describes it. All entries will be judged by senior engineers and managers from Amazon.
Students can sign up as an individual or as a team of three, either as an undergraduate or post-graduate student. Students will be provided with AWS credit to support development and hosting. It’s an opportunity to give people a taste of the AWS Middle East region due to its proximity to Jordan.
If you’re thinking that this is only open to students studying in a technical field, you’re wrong. However, all participating students are expected to possess the technical knowledge to implement and present their project. The purpose is to develop solutions that will have real-life impact, giving students the chance to think beyond the classroom. The problem will be left to the discretion of the participants.
Best reward? Three sets of cash prizes that will be in the form of scholarships contributed towards the student’s education.
