Cosmopolitan Middle East hosting female-focused Cosmo Cup

When you think of gaming, you’d likely conclude that it’s mostly a male-only activity that happens with group of friends. Who says gamers can’t be females, especially here in the Middle East when majority are likely playing FIFA/Fortnite/PUBG/Call of Duty/etc.? Cosmopolitan is flipping it around with the launch of the Cosmo Cup, the first female-focused online gaming tournament in the Middle East.

Aside from just the announcement, the only detail we have going around is that it’ll kick-off near the end September. It’ll be structured into a three-week gaming format, open to players from all over the GCC region. The online tournament will begin with a week-long registration, followed by one week of qualifiers and a week of finals.

Participants will compete for 3rd, 2nd and 1st places to win big prizes.

Don’t assume that it’s open only for females because of lack of females and it’s being done by Cosmopolitan. The event will be open to men and women. There’s no mention of a minimum age, so we’ll likely assume that participants have to be minimum 18 years of age.

With a good number of games holding online tournaments that include countries within the region, this is quite a great step in encouraging females to participate and view it as more inclusive for gamers in the region. I’ll be waiting to see how many female Fortnite players are there, and maybe even some FIFA and Call of Duty gamers.
