Google Street View is rolling out in Oman

Google Street View is now available in Oman, allowing global users to explore its streets virtually. This places Oman as the 7th MENA country and 3rd GCC country to offer this feature.

Did you ever want to explore the streets of Oman on Google Maps from your home? That’s about to become a reality, as Google Street View is rolling out across the country. In simple words, you can now explore the streets of Oman on Google Maps, from anywhere around the world. Oman becomes the 7th country in the MENA region (3rd one in the GCC) to see the availability of Google Street View after UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Tunisia.

Google has worked closely with the Omani Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), and the National Survey and Geospatial Information Authority (NSGIA), for the first phase of the launch. According to the Google MENA blog, the first phase of the project includes a curated selection of Oman’s locations including Khor Rori, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Oman.

IMHO, I’ve previously visited Oman and loved it as residents now get to explore more of the country that will definitely fuel their wanderlust. Not only on your desktop web, you can also see it via the Google Maps app on iOS/Android.

Street View Trekkers captured many of the locations, mounted on pickup trucks. This made it easy to move on any type of road, covering a distance of around 36,000 km. Though, I wouldn’t rule out the option of using a camel like they did for the UAE.

With the release of the first phase, phase 2 should roll out sometime in 2025.
