Many entertainment houses are gettign onto the SVOD trend, banking on their library of content to bring in the viewers. You add Discovery Inc. to the mix, as they’ve rolled out Discovery+ worldwide.
Such launches have been focused on US and certain European countries followed by other markets. This launch is quite significant, as the new service comes to the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region in partnership with StarzPlay with the simulataneous global launch. Even India gets to enjoy the new service at the same time.
Discovery+ within StarzPlay
Given the current ongoing situation, the launch and announcement was done virtually by StarzPlay CEO Maaz Sheikh.
This doesn’t mean that this will be one of your primary ones like Netflix/Disney+/Amazon Prime. Think of Discovery+ complementing your entertainment demands with reality and non-fiction SVOD content. This is an add-on service that you can watch in a dedicated branded area within StarzPlay.
Don’t look at Discover+ as a replacement to the likes of Netflix and Disney+ (which is in the MENA region in partnership with OSN but only applies to the Disney+ Originals not the full service itself). Discovery Inc. has many properties that you’re likely familiar with from TV and social media: Food Network, The History Channel, and more.

If you’re familiar with shows like “Shark Week” and “Mythbusters”, you’ll be right at home. Don’t forget that you’ll even get to access exclusive Discovery+ originals as well. Another addition for the MENA region is Arabic cooking shows from Fatafeat will be available on-demand, catering to the Arabic-speaking viewers.
You can watch them anywhere on any devic, including via the StarzPlay Apple TV channel. Note that it’ll cost you an additional AED/SAR 15 per month on top of your existing StarzPlay subscription. There’s a seven-day trial to give you a taste of their library.
I’m sure they could come up with a suitable bundle option that gives users more value; if they plan to bring other SVOD services in the future.
